Volunteer Denver

Volunteers are a vital aspect of Urban Peak’s mission of providing care and support to the youth experiencing homelessness in Colorado.  Volunteers are needed for recurring volunteer roles on a weekly, monthly or quarterly schedule.  One time or short term individual volunteers are not accepted. 

Currently, our greatest volunteer needs are: A) summer volunteers to serve in the mornings at our Drop-In Center, B) meal groups to serve breakfast at our Drop-In Center, C) Welcome Wagon volunteers to clean and ready apartments for new residents, D) Development Intern E) Volunteer Management Intern.

Individual Volunteers

Individual volunteers are needed to provide everyday needed services and resources to youth experiencing homelessness and can impart needed life skills. 

  

Here are some important specifics to be aware of:

  • Direct Care/Life skill volunteers must be at least age 21.

  • Individual volunteers who serve at the Shelter must pay for a TB test, fingerprint card and an ongoing background check fee.

  • Urban Peak CANNOT USE VOLUNTEERS: A) to provide medical services, B) for court ordered community service, C) with felonies involving theft, assault, illegal drug distribution, sexual assault, or repetitive drug or DUI charges.

 

Meal Group Volunteers

Meal Volunteer groups of no more than 6 people are needed at both our Shelter and our Drop-In Center, located at the Spot.

At our Shelter, groups are needed to donate and serve breakfasts seven days a week, for about 30 to 40 youth.   Groups are also needed to serve lunch at our Shelter for about 10-25 youth. 

At our Drop-In Center, the Spot, meals groups of no more than six people  are needed to donate and serve breakfast Mondays to Fridays to about 40-60 people. 

 

Your business, your community group, or your church can help provide support and a caring presence to our youth by providing a great meal for them.

Here are some important specifics to be aware of:

  • The only dinners available for groups are the days during a fifth week of a month.  All the other dinners are already covered by other groups.

  • Food prepared at home is not allowed.  The only prepared food, pre-cooked food allowed must come for a commercially licensed kitchen or restaurant. 

  • Meal volunteers at the Spot must be at least age 18 or older.

  • At the Shelter, minors are allowed with volunteer meal groups, but they must be under constant adult supervision.
