Upcoming Dates

Youth Spotlight

Jay and De (pronounced “Dee”) are a couple of rockstars and frequent faces at The Spot, having dated since before they arrived together from Louisiana in 2022. De has a killer voice and is a rising star in the Urban Peak music studio and at open mic nights, with Jay always cheering her on! They’re both incredibly enthusiastic and are always the first to sign up for outings and events. Whether it’s hiking, swimming, lake days, movie nights, prom, or any other event that involves hanging out with their Urban Peak family – they are there!

De and Jay worked with our employment team to find jobs that they both have kept for over a year now! They recently moved into their own apartment at a supportive housing site for unhoused youth owned by TGTHR, and De is beside herself with excitement to make the place their own.

Once they’re fully settled in the new place, De and Jay are excited to get married and start a family together! We will miss seeing their smiling faces at The Spot, but we’re so excited to see them charting their own course. Good luck and congratulations to them both! 🎉

Urban Peak is lucky to work with amazing partners across the country, and recently none have been more generous than our friends at Room & Board. Over the years, Room & Board has consistently supported us in many ways, primarily by providing our housing program with tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars of in-kind furniture donations. Their help has saved our youth countless hours of expensive shopping and instead lets them focus their efforts on the real work of achieving self-sufficiency.

In addition to in-kind support, Room & Board plugs in wherever they can to meet our youth’s needs. They drop off donated furniture and often set it up for youth, saving us time and effort. They support us financially as well, through sponsoring fundraising events and contributing to our Mothership capital campaign. They were even honored as Urban Peak Maverick Thinkers in 2015! Check out their honoree video on our YouTube channel.

The words “thank you” don’t seem like enough to express our gratitude for Room & Board’s generosity and support, but it’s a good place to start. We love our partners!

Volunteer for Good Day!

Urban Peak’s first-ever Volunteer for Good Day has come and gone, and what an awesome day it was! We are so incredibly grateful to the roughly 65 volunteers who came from our corporate and community partners to spend a few hours helping us get our new shelter campus – The Mothership – ready for youth to move-in.

HUGE shoutouts to our friends at:

  • Room & Board

  • Snooze A.M. Eatery

  • Xcel Energy

  • Empower

  • DaVita

  • S&P Global

  • K Financial

  • Moody Insurance

  • Overland Park Neighborhood Association

  • Otten Johnson Robinson Neff + Ragonetti PC

  • Alpine Lumber

Thank you to everyone for being the spark and showing up for our youth! With Volunteer for Good Day in the rearview mirror, our next and last stop is youth move-in day, now just a few weeks away. We cannot wait for this next exciting era in Urban Peak history.

With such an exciting new chapter for Urban Peak finally here, we need your help to ensure that youth like De and Jay can get the support they need during this transition. For $30/month, you can provide a hearty dinner for 70 young people. Will you commit to becoming a recurring donor and help support unhoused youth in our community?
