Happy New Year from Urban Peak

Dear Urban Peak Family,

As 2021 comes to an end, it is of course a time of reflection. As I look back on the year behind us, I am astounded by the resilience of our youth, the fortitude of our staff, the engagement of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors.

Over the past year, Urban Peak has faced an ever-shifting landscape plagued by COVID, staffing shortages, systemic racism, gender and sexual orientation inequality, health disparities and income imbalances. It is impossible to ignore the increasing demand for our services and for affordable housing that is accessible to people experiencing homelessness throughout our community.

Despite the numerous challenges we faced in 2021, Urban Peak rose to meet the needs of our youth.

Over the last year, Urban Peak provided:

• housing for 177 youth, including 23 children;

• over 32,000 meals;

• 9,794 nights of shelter;

• over 4,800 hours of case management.

These numbers can’t tell the entire story of the work done at Urban Peak, but they provide a snapshot that shows our critical response to the needs of our youth.

The beauty of being a part of the Urban Peak family is that I get to witness the incredible work that our team does and the ability of our youth to rise above the challenging circumstances and trauma they have endured. Our programs continue to provide safety, hope and joy so that the brave young people we work with can break the cycle of poverty and avoid chronic homelessness. After all, this is what every person in our community deserves – especially the most vulnerable among us that find refuge at Urban Peak. 

Urban Peak continues to be a place of hope and inspiration for me. It reminds me of all that is good in the world. I say it all the time, and as I reflect on 2021, it is truer than ever before. Urban Peak will change your life if you get involved. Staying involved saves lives and most importantly our youth who need our support. And perhaps it will change your life the way that it has changed mine.
