November 2024 Peak Spotlight - Peak Boutique
Welcome to Peak Boutique!
This month at Urban Peak, we are thrilled to announce the grand opening of the Peak Boutique! The Peak Boutique can be found on the fourth floor of The Mothership, aka the Wellbeing Center, and serves as the main storage hub for all the generous clothing donations we receive from this awesome community.
If you have ever been to our old site on Stout St., you might recall that we previously kept clothing donations in the basement due to a lack of space. It was far from ideal; the basement was crowded, dark and un-cozy.
The vulnerable young people we serve deserve a dignified space that is easy to navigate and makes them feel good as they are trying on new outfits. Having pride in our physical appearance contributes so much to our sense of self, allowing us to exist in and navigate the world with confidence. There is nothing better than giving our youth the power and freedom to choose the person they want to be on any given day.
With Peak Boutique, youth have access to a quiet, well-lit closet space with clothes nicely organized by category/size and hung on racks for easy perusal. They can start to build their own wardrobe, especially given that those who live in Urban Peak’s neighborhoods have their own closet space (possibly for the first time in their lives).
It is also free and run entirely by volunteers! One volunteer, Lee Goodfriend, shared her experience running the boutique: “[youth] were thrilled with the new winter coats… and I like waiting on them.” Right now, the Peak Boutique is open two days a week for two hours at a time, but as we are able to welcome more volunteers to Urban Peak in the coming weeks, we hope to expand those hours significantly.
Do you have new or lightly used and freshly washed clothing that you want to donate? Check out our in-kind donations page for details.
