October 2024 Youth Spotlight - Kenny
Kenny, a young dreamer with big plans, has shown incredible resilience through tough times.
Kenny was living outside with his mother, brother Caleb and two dogs when life took a sharp turn. Their mother was suddenly hospitalized, and Kenny and his brother wondered what to do. They found temporary shelter with a kind stranger who noticed them sleeping outside the hospital. They also began accessing day services at Urban Peak and connected with a case manager. When they had to move on from their temporary home, they secured beds at Urban Peak’s former shelter on Stout Street, and they were both part of the very first group of young people to move into the Mothership!
Since then, Kenny has embraced the many opportunities available all in one place at the Mothership. Now with a full-time job and making steady progress toward earning his GED, he is building a foundation for the future. Kenny shared that he feels proud of “getting his stuff together,” just as his mom always encouraged. His next steps? Stick with a job, support his family and one day move out on his own. Beyond that, Kenny dreams of retiring in Ireland as a farmer and fisherman — he promises that visitors will always be welcome. 😊
